San Mateo plastic surgeon Frank J. Piro, MD, provides a range of breast surgery options to meet the unique needs of SF Bay Area, San Mateo, San Carlos, Burlingame and Hillsborough breast enhancement patients. In addition to offering breast augmentation surgery with saline or silicone breast implants, Dr. Piro also offers breast lift, breast reduction and breast reconstructive surgery.
Some women pursue surgical breast enhancement with Dr. Piro because they desire larger breasts with more volume to help them feel womanly or to bolster their self-confidence. Others consider breast lift surgery to improve the look of flat, deflated-looking breasts and/or southward-pointing nipples that have occurred as a result of breastfeeding. Still, others seek breast reduction surgery to reduce the size of overly enlarged, pendulous breasts, thus alleviating the physical discomfort and embarrassment they experience as a result of having extremely large breasts. Finally, women who have undergone mastectomy to treat breast cancer often turn to Dr. Piro for breast reconstruction surgery.
I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Piro. He did my breast reconstruction after a mastectomy, He listened to my concerns and answered all of my question. Made me feel comfortable and confident. He has a great bedside manner and is a nice person. you won't be disappointed.

The specifics of breast surgery vary depending on which procedure you pursue. For instance, if you undergo combination breast augmentation and breast lift surgery, your entire procedure will take longer than undergoing breast augmentation surgery alone.
In addition, the chosen incision approach, the implant-placement method (if applicable) and other unique factors, such as the patient’s body type and the complexity of her aesthetic desires, determine how long the procedure takes and how complicated the recovery period is.
Generally speaking, however, Dr. Piro performs breast surgery as an outpatient procedure, so women can recover comfortably in their own home after surgery. The patient receives general anesthesia prior to the start of breast surgery, so she does not experience any pain and is completely comfortable throughout surgery. Once the procedure is finished and the effects of the anesthesia have subsided, patients are released into the care of a responsible adult.
Breast surgery patients need someone to stay with them the first night following the procedure. In general, women should expect to take one to two weeks off from work or their daily routine after surgery to recover.
The recovery period is most acute in the initial three to five days following breast surgery. During the initial recovery period, individuals should get as much rest as possible and avoid any rigorous activity including heavy lifting. That said, they should walk around the house periodically as soon as they are physically able, to decrease the risk of developing blood clots.
Patients may notice that the treated area is bruised, swollen, tender, sore or numb, but these are normal symptoms that should gradually diminish over time. Dr. Piro may advise that patients take certain oral pain medication or apply ice packs to the treated area to relieve any discomfort in the initial phase of recovery.
